Sport and exercise is our passion. We have many years of experience treating budding professional athletes, elite athletes and weekend warriors. Whether you are a high end athlete or marathon first timer, we cater for all sports and varying abilities.

BACK & NECK PAIN

Due to modern living, we are constantly treating back and neck pain due to acute injuries or postural problems. We are experts in this field and have many treatment options available. We treat pain and dysfunction due to muscular spasm, joint dysfunction/injuries, disc pathology and whiplash. We strive to reduce pain, restore normal posture, increase flexibility, strengthen core and improve your ergonomics.

INJURY PREVENTION SCREEN AND BIOMECHANICAL ASSESSMENT

This assessment typically requires two sessions. We use a 7 key test assessment called the functional movement screen (FMS). Based on your findings we can tailor a customised exercise programme to improve posture, core stability, reduce pain or improve your chosen sport. If deemed necessary, we can advise on orthotic devices.

VO2 MAX TESTING

At DC Fitness Physio we offer VO2 max and submaximal testing. A VO2 max test is a measurement that reflects a person’s ability to perform sustained exercise. It is the gold standard of cardiovascular fitness and aerobic endurance. It is suitable for a wide range of individuals, from sedentary to elite athletes. VO2 max is the maximum rate of oxygen consumption that can be attained during the most intense exercise possible. The measurement requires that the client breathe into an oxygen consumption analyser during an all-out effort on a treadmill or bicycle as part of a graded exercise protocol. If the client isn’t comfortable with an all-out effort, we offer the submaximal testing.

Everybody that does the test will receive a printout of their unique fitness profile and the information you need to take your training and performance to the next level. In the printout you will be given a VO2 score, we will be able to identify your max heart rate, Aerobic and Anaerobic thresholds to the exact beat, your 5 unique training zones, recovery times and calorie expenditure to suit all zones. This data can be used as the foundation for customised exercise programs that we create. This test guides the customisation of exercise programmes to improve the aerobic capacity of our clients and to help reduce injury and fatigue.

RESTING METABOLIC RATE TESTING

Metabolic rate is a measure of how much food, or fat, is converted to energy in a day. RMR is the measurement of how much food, or energy, is required to maintain basic functions such as heartbeat, breathing, and maintenance of body heat while in a state of rest. That energy is expressed in calories per day. An RMR test shows how many calories you burn at rest, doing nothing more than sitting in a chair.
